Connecting with The Mind

As mentioned in the first post What is the mind?, we talked about the key aspects that make up The Mind, and how The Mind is us, in this incarnation on earth. Our soul goes else where when we die, but whilst are here on earth, we are totally synergised with The Mind as it is our interface with The Physical Body and The Electrical Body (brain + nervous system) and our Spiritual Body.

How can we connect with The Mind?

Being too focused on The Physicaly body, does just that, we think, we feel, and we become encompassed by the needs and wants of The Physical Body.

When we daydream and think too much, we become obsessed with The Electrical Body, in particular the brain.

If we do too much of both of these things, we become too heavily weighted in one or the other. When we focus too much on The Physical Body, our intellect might disappear, which could result in other effects, such as not paying attention to our mortgage payments!

If you spend too much time doing academic works, or ‘daydreaming’, then we may end up at a desk all day, and end up looking like a bananas.

Needless to say, each individual has their own levels of each aspect of life. I don’t think everyone is meant to be athlete. I also think not everyone is designed to be a theoretical physicist.

So how do we listen to the whole system? Well there are many ways, but one way is meditation.

Focusing & listening to The Mind – Meditation & other techniques

I will start off by saying that I would like to think I’m fairly good, at my own types of meditation, which work really well for me.

I do not however have a great deal of experience with Yoga. Yes I do it on occasion to increase my dexterity and reduce blockages, however, I feel significantly stronger benefits to Meditation. At present I’m spending more time in the gym and walking to try and achieve my goals to do with The Physical Body.

I’m saying this, because I think everyone is quite similar, in that everyone has their own unique sets of strengths and one thing doesnt normally work for everyone. Instead, we need to find what resonates with us.

For instance, some people feel comfortable in the woods, others by the beach. Some want to treck up a mountain and some just want to sit in their back yard. There is no right or wrong way, instead, you need to find what’s right for you.

So when it comes to focusing The Mind, or getting into a state of mind where you can truley listen to yourself, then there is once again no right or wrong way of doing it.

Here are some common ways people may get in touch with themselves:

Sound / Music

Some people respond really well with sound. From making it live on stage, to listening to it in baths, sound can dramatically change a lot of peoples moods and the energy in their body.

For me, meditation music of kinds kicks me right into the right frame of mind.

For me, I prefer something not too intense, but instead something that blends into the background. This way, I’m not too stimulated by the music, as ideally I need to be slowing down my breathing and thought processes.

This then helps me to create a space whereby The Physical Body and The Electrical Body are calmer. This then creates a greater space for The Mind and The Soul to start entering into my focus.

Physical Movement

Some people are born dancers or acrobats. These two are quite extreme, but not uncommon.

Another common one is Yoga. Holding certain positions not only does wonders for The Physical Body and The Electrical Body, as circulation is at it’s prime, but also these various ‘openings’ can also trigger significant awareness of the overall system.

I know a number of people who don’t meditate at all, and they are very capable of cleansing their Spiritual Energy through Yoga alone.

Visualizations / art / image making

Some people are much more inclined to create things that are of a visual nature.

Who doesn’t like to see supreme artwork, or an amazing piece of craftmanship. From fine art to kitchen furniture, this is often an expression that people are drawn too, as we humans are extremely visual.

Personally, one of the key aspects of Meditation is the visual aspect. Simply observing with my eyes open, or closed, has been a game changer.

I will write more about this in my mediation pages in due course.

Smell and taste

Some of us are totally mesmerized by smell and taste.

I have heard a number of times, that people who suffer with server Alzheimer’s can still recall vast banks of memory, based on a smell alone. Maybe the smell of a particular sweet from your childhood?

Some say that scent is the most primitive of the senses (“trust your nose”) and one of the hardest senses the synthesise! Masking damp air for instance isn’t easy. The sense of smell alone incapsulates soo many sub senses.

I for instance, find it very hard to tell different smells from one another, however my nose is very good at picking up atmospheric conditions e.g. damp air, mould, fresh air, and everything in between. Needless to say, living by the sea, and walking through woods is a big thing for me. Fresh pine and pastures of grass just smell inspiring. Often my creativity is triggered when I smell things.

Taste once again is a huge one. Some may say “you are what you eat” and to pretend that what we eat doesn’t effect us, is somewhat crazy. Only a few months after birth, we are weened off our mothers milk. After this, our growth, till the day we die, is from what we eat and drink. We are quite literally made, from planet earth.

Touch / physically feeling / experiencing the environment through touch

There certainly is an aspect of sexual expression when it comes to feeling, however there are also many other ways in which you can use the feeling, of your whole body, to get in touch with the holistic body.

Needless to say, the whole of The Physical Body is a massive surface area that is exposed to the elments. The skin is the largest organ in the human body!

Whilst it might sound crazy, standing in the wind, and having a ‘wind bath’ is quite an experience when you wilfully engage in it.

Of those who sea swim, or lake swim, I’m sure you will understand the purification and invigoration you get from this experience. When I speak to people about swimming in the sea, they often agree with me when I say “when your swimming in the sea, your doing nothing else but swimming in the sea!”.

Massage and 1001 other physically sensing experience can also contribute towards the feeling network. A while back I had a sports massage and whilst they were working on my lower back, I really could feel nerves being positively effected, going all the way up my arms… it’s all connected.

The 5 Physical Senses & the Spiritual Senses

Hopefully from what you have gathered from this page is that we ‘feed’ from our 5 physical senses. By connecting with them, we becomes more ourselves, in our current body, in this current incarnation.

Whilst we have 5 physical senses, some people are more inclined towards some senses more than others. However you are set up, working your strengths is key to listening to The Mind.

Focusing ourselves on the present, connects us with our own experiences, not one we read about in fairy tail books. The more 1st person we can get with our experiences, the richer the experience is.

These 5 senses are connected with The Mind, and also run in parallel to our Spiritual Senses. The 5 Physical Senses run in parallel with 5 Spiritual Senses.

The more we can engage and feel real, the less distracted we will be. The less distracted we are, the more open we become. We become less triggered by primitive internal algorithms (stereotypes and the likes), and become more open to change. We feel more at east with what unfolds in front of us, however logical or illogical that may seem.

The spiritual world is of a fluid nature. When we clear and open up ourselves, this is when we can start to see beyond just our Physical Senses. Needless to say our Spiritual Senses (Spiritual Body) are also part of The Mind.

Meditation

Whilst I love using all my 5 senses, personally I find Meditation to be the significant ‘big hitter’ when it comes to listening and focusing on my mind.

Meditation is also the gateway to our Spiritual Senses, and is the playground of The Spiritual Body.
